During this 10-week course, we will explore one central question:

What can we know about God by looking at Jesus Christ?

Jesus said:

“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” – John 14:9

Through the words, actions, character, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we will explore what He reveals about the Father while using English to discuss, explain, ask questions, express opinions, and apply what we learn.

More Than an English Class

Many English students spend years studying grammar and vocabulary but still find it difficult to have a real conversation.

One reason is simple: knowing English and using English are not the same thing.

This course puts speaking at the center of the learning experience.

Instead of spending most of the class listening to explanations, you will regularly use English with the teacher and other students through:

• pair and small-group conversations;
• practical dialogues;
• questions and answers;
• Bible discussions;
• story retelling;
• short explanations;
• role plays;
• pronunciation practice;
• interactive speaking activities.

The goal is not perfect English.

The goal is to help you understand more easily, speak more naturally, express your thoughts more clearly, and become more confident participating in real conversations.

Knowing Christ to Know the Father

The biblical theme for this 10-week course comes largely from the Gospel of John.

In John 17:3, Jesus describes eternal life as knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He sent.

Elsewhere, the Bible tells us that Jesus is the image of the invisible God and the exact representation of God’s nature.

That gives us the central idea for the course:

If we want to understand what God is like, we should look at Jesus.

Throughout the course, we will examine what Jesus’ words and actions reveal about the Father and consider what those truths mean for the way we relate to God, worship Him, obey Him, pray, and treat other people.

What We Will Discuss

Lesson 1 – Jesus Shows Us What the Father Is Like

What did Jesus mean when He said, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father”?

Learn to explain how Jesus reveals the Father and practice phrases for clarifying ideas and correcting misunderstandings.

Lesson 2 – Eternal Life Is Knowing God

Is eternal life simply life that never ends?

Explore Jesus’ definition of eternal life and discuss the difference between knowing about God and knowing God.

Lesson 3 – Jesus Is the Exact Image of God

What does the Bible mean when it calls Jesus “the image of the invisible God”?

Practice explaining difficult ideas in simple English while exploring how Christ reveals God clearly.

Lesson 4 – Jesus Reveals the Father’s Love

Love is more than an emotion.

Look at the ways Jesus demonstrated love through service, compassion, sacrifice, and giving Himself for others.

Lesson 5 – Jesus Reveals the Father’s Holiness

How could Jesus welcome sinners without approving sin?

Discuss holiness, truth, mercy, repentance, and why holiness should not be confused with harshness.

Lesson 6 – Jesus Reveals the Father’s Compassion

Jesus noticed suffering people, welcomed the weary, touched those others avoided, and wept with those who grieved.

Use Gospel stories to practice storytelling while discovering what Jesus’ compassion reveals about the Father.

Lesson 7 – Jesus Speaks the Father’s Words

Jesus said His teaching came from the Father.

Discuss what it means not only to hear Jesus but to take His words seriously and put His teaching into practice.

Lesson 8 – Jesus Does the Father’s Works

Why did Jesus perform miracles?

Explore how His works functioned as signs revealing the Father’s power, mercy, authority, provision, and saving purpose.

Lesson 9 – The Cross Reveals the Father

The cross tells us something profound about both God’s love and His holiness.

Practice explaining how love, justice, mercy, sacrifice, forgiveness, and reconciliation come together at the cross.

Lesson 10 – Knowing the Father Through the Risen Son

What difference does the resurrection make?

Bring everything together as we discuss how the risen Christ brings us into relationship with the Father and how knowing God leads to worship, obedience, hope, and mission.

Proven Methods to Improve Your English Speaking Skills

Learn Phrases, Not Just Vocabulary Lists

Learning individual English words is useful, but conversations are built with phrases and sentences.

Throughout the course, you will repeatedly practice useful expressions. The objective is for useful English to become easier to remember and more natural to use.

Build on What you Already Know

Learning something once is usually not enough to make it part of your spoken English. That is why important language from earlier classes will return throughout the course.

You may learn a phrase in one lesson, retrieve it from memory later in the same class, use it in a dialogue, encounter it again in a future lesson, and eventually use it independently in a new conversation.

This helps move English from something you recognize to something you can actually say.

Active Speaking to Accelerate Your Learning

This is a Conversational English Course. That means students should expect to participate.

Many activities are done simultaneously in pairs or small groups so that more students have more opportunities to speak.

The objective is not to put you on the spot. It is to give you enough practice that speaking English becomes progressively easier and more comfortable.

Pronunciation Practice to Perfect Your English

Throughout the course, you will also practice understanding spoken English and communicating more clearly. Pronunciation is very important if you want to be understood when you speak.

Special attention will be given to pronunciation challenges that are common for Brazilian Portuguese speakers.

The focus is clear, understandable English, not eliminating your accent.

Learn with a Native English Speaker

Classes are taught in English by a native English speaker from the United States.

This gives students regular exposure to natural spoken English, pronunciation, expressions, questions, and the rhythm of real conversation.

At the same time, the class is structured for English learners, so the objective is not simply to hear a native speaker-it is to interact, understand, respond, and speak.

Is This English Conversational Course Right for You?

This is not a beginner English course. 

It is designed for students who already have an intermediate or higher level of English and want more opportunities to actually use the language.

You should be able to:

• understand the main idea when someone speaks to you in English;
• read and understand an intermediate English text;
• answer basic questions in English;
• express your thoughts using sentences, even if you make mistakes.

You do not need perfect grammar, perfect pronunciation, or an advanced vocabulary.

You need enough English to participate and a willingness to speak.
